How does the Rafting and Tazi Canyon 5 in 1 tour from Antalya work?

Canyon first, then the river

The day runs in this order: first the open-top buses take the group up to Tazi Canyon, where you look down on the Köprüçay River from above. Then we head down to the water and raft along the same river, and the zipline comes last.

We pick you up from your hotel in Antalya between 08:00 and 09:00 and head for Köprülü Canyon National Park. The road leaves the coast for pine forests and rocks, and by the Köprüçay River the air turns noticeably cooler.

Helmets, life jackets and a briefing before the start

At the rafting centre there’s time to change. The team explains how the day will run: when the group leaves for Tazi Canyon and when the rafting starts.

The instructors hand out helmets and life jackets and help you find the right size. They show you how to sit in the raft, how to hold the paddle and what the commands on the water mean. That’s all the preparation you need, even if you’ve never rafted before.

Cabrio safari across the Roman Oluk Bridge

After the briefing the group moves to open-top safari buses. This ride is longer than on the standard rafting tour: the buses drive on past the rafting start point and climb up to Tazi Canyon. The road winds up the slopes of Köprülü Canyon National Park among pines and rocks, and in the open bus you feel the mountain wind.

On the way the buses cross the Roman Oluk Bridge over the Köprüçay River. It was built in the 2nd century, is about 1,900 years old and stands about 27 metres high. The road here is narrow and there’s usually no separate stop at the bridge, but from the open bus you see it up close and can take photos as you go. Later, after the canyon, this is where the rafting starts.

Photo stop at Tazi Canyon, the “Valley of Wisdom”

Tazi Canyon is a narrow gorge that runs for about 4 km, with rock walls rising more than 200 metres where it is deepest. It’s also known as the “Valley of Wisdom”.

The buses take the group almost right up to the canyon, so you only need to walk a short way. From the first viewpoint, which is included, you look out over the gorge, the mountains and the Köprüçay River far below. We stop here for the views and photos.

There’s also a second viewpoint, the national park’s wooden panoramic platform, at $5 per person. You pick one of the two: if you’d like the platform, please let the instructor know before you board the open-top buses, or you’ll go to the free viewpoint. You can’t visit both on the same tour.

There’s no railing along the edge, so please stay well back from the drop and keep children by your side.

14 km of rafting on the Köprüçay River

From the canyon, the open-top buses take the group back down to the start point by Oluk Bridge. Here guests are split into rafts, usually 8–10 people, with an instructor in each. Your things stay on the open-top bus: it drives on to the rafting centre, and you collect them there after the finish.

Along the route of about 14 km the instructor tells you when to paddle, when to hold on and how to take the faster stretches. There are no difficult rapids: calm water alternates with quicker sections, splashes and small waves. That’s why it’s a popular choice for first-timers: families with children aged 6 and over, couples and groups of friends.

The Köprüçay is a mountain river and the water is cool, usually 15–20°C. That feels good in the heat, and if you get cold easily, a wetsuit for $10 helps. The rafting finishes at the rafting centre.

Zipline over the Köprüçay River

After the rafting the group heads to the zipline in Köprülü Canyon. Staff help you into the safety harness, check it, clip each guest into the safety system and explain what to do.

Then you glide along a steel cable right over the Köprüçay River, with the water below and rocks and green slopes on either side. Children aged 6–12 can do the zipline too. After the ride we head back to the rafting centre.

Lunch by the river: chicken, pasta and salad

Lunch is waiting at the rafting centre, usually chicken, pasta and salad. Afterwards you can change into dry clothes, sit by the river and take photos.

Rafting tours in Köprülü Canyon run in mixed groups: on the bus and at the rafting centre you’ll be with guests on other programmes, such as rafting, the zipline, buggy and quad safaris, or the Tazi Canyon and Selge tour. So after lunch there’s free time: while the other guests finish their part of the programme, you relax by the river, and then the whole group travels back to the hotels together.

Back to your hotel

Towards evening we set off back to Antalya. Guests are usually back at their hotels between 18:30 and 19:30. The exact time depends on where your hotel is, on traffic and on the pace of the group.

Tazi Canyon from above, 14 km of rafting on the Köprüçay River and a zipline ride over it, all in one day.

Book your seat online with no prepayment. You pay for the tour on the bus on the day.

What is Tazi Canyon?
Tazi Canyon is a mountain gorge in Köprülü Canyon National Park. It was carved by the Köprüçay River, which cut its way through the rock over many centuries.

The canyon is about 4 km long, and in its deepest parts the rock walls are more than 200 metres high. It’s also known as the “Valley of Wisdom”.

We drive guests almost to the canyon itself. There’s no long hike, just a short walk to see the views and take photos.

Please take care at the canyon: the edge is not fenced, so don’t go too close, and keep a close eye on your children.

Do I have to pay extra to see Tazi Canyon?
No. From the first Tazi Canyon viewpoint you look out over the gorge, the mountains and the Köprüçay River far below, and this view is included in the tour price.

The second viewpoint is a wooden panoramic platform built by the national park. Entry is a separate $5 ticket and is optional. If you’d like to go up, tell the instructor before boarding the open-top safari buses, otherwise you’ll go to the free viewpoint. It isn’t possible to visit both on the same tour. Our representative at the canyon collects the payment.

What is a cabrio safari?
A cabrio safari is a ride in open-top buses from the rafting centre across Oluk Bridge up to Tazi Canyon, and then back to the rafting start point.

The route runs through the pine forests and mountain areas of Köprülü Canyon National Park. It’s part of the programme, not the drive from your hotel.

Transfers to and from your hotel are in an air-conditioned minibus, not an open-top bus.

Can I go rafting with no experience?
Yes, no experience is needed.

The rafting takes place on the Köprüçay River. The route is suitable for beginners and has no difficult rapids. There’s an instructor in every raft.

Before the start you’re shown how to sit, how to hold the paddle and how to follow commands. Everyone wears a helmet and a life jacket.

How cold is the water in the Köprüçay River?

It’s usually around 15–20°C. If you feel the cold easily, you can hire a wetsuit for $10.

How long does the rafting take?
The rafting route is about 14 km long.

On the water it takes about 1.5–2 hours. The exact time depends on the water level and the pace of the group.

Children can take part in the rafting from the age of 6.

Children aged 0–5 travel free but don’t take part in the rafting.

Children aged 6–12 pay the child price and take part in the whole programme, including the rafting and the zipline. From the age of 13 the adult price applies.

Can I choose a two-seater kayak?
Yes, you can.

A two-seater kayak costs extra: $10 per kayak, not per person. If you’d like this option, mention it in the “Special Requests” field when you book.

What shoes do I need for rafting?
You need shoes that stay firmly on your feet and don’t slip on wet surfaces.

You are not allowed to go rafting barefoot. At the rafting centre you can hire water shoes for $5 or buy a pair for $10.

Do I need a wetsuit?
In summer, swimwear is enough for most guests.

A wetsuit is worth taking in spring or autumn, or if you get cold quickly in cool water. Wetsuit hire costs $10.

Where can I leave my things during the active part of the programme?
During the rafting your things stay on the open-top bus.

While you’re on the water, the bus drives to the rafting centre, and you pick up your things there after the finish.

It’s best not to bring valuables on the tour.

Are photos and video included in the price?
No, professional photos and video cost extra.

Photos and video cost $15 per person. Buying them is optional.

During the rafting it’s best to leave your phone on the open-top bus with your things, so you don’t risk it on the water.

Will my child have their own seat on the bus?
