How does the Rafting and Buggy Safari 5 in 1 tour from Alanya work?
Hotel pickup and the drive into Köprülü Canyon
In the morning, between about 07:30 and 09:00, we pick guests up at their hotel gates, and an air-conditioned minibus takes us to Köprülü Canyon National Park.
On the way, the sea and the resort streets slowly fall behind, and pine trees, mountain slopes and rocks take their place. The air gets fresher the closer you get to the Köprüçay River, and on a hot day you notice it straight away.
Helmets, life jackets and a briefing at the rafting centre
At the rafting centre you can change into your swimwear and leave your bags and a change of clothes on the bus or at the centre itself. The team gives you a quick rundown of how the day will run.
Everyone gets a helmet and a life jacket in the right size. At the briefing you’re shown how to sit in the raft, how to hold the paddle and what to do on the instructor’s commands on the river.
You don’t need to have rafted before: everything is explained in plain terms, and the river suits first-timers too. You’re not allowed to go rafting barefoot, so if you don’t have suitable shoes, you can hire water shoes right at the rafting centre.
Cabrio safari in open-top buses
From the rafting centre we ride to the start point in open-top safari buses. With no roof overhead, you see the pines and rocks of Köprülü Canyon on every side and feel the fresh mountain wind on your face.
Oluk Bridge: a Roman bridge about 27 metres high
On the way to the start, the bus drives across Oluk Bridge, one of the best-known sights in the canyon. It was built in Roman times, around the 2nd century, which makes it about 1,900 years old.
The road by the bridge is narrow, and the buses usually don’t stop here. Instead you drive right across it: from the open bus you see both the bridge and the river below, and you can try for a photo on the move.
Rafting the Köprüçay: splashes, waves and cool water
The main part of the day is rafting down the Köprüçay, a mountain river. The route is about 14 km long and runs through Köprülü Canyon.
Guests are split between the rafts, each with an instructor and usually 8–10 paddlers. The instructor steers the raft the whole way and tells you when to paddle, when to hold on and how to take the faster stretches. On the calm sections you can take in the scenery; on the faster ones it’s splashes, small waves and paddling in time together.
There are no difficult rapids on the route. The Köprüçay stays cool even in summer, which feels great after the heat of Alanya. If you get cold easily, a wetsuit helps, and you can hire one.
The rafting ends at the rafting centre, and by then the bus with your things is back there too.
A zipline ride above the Köprüçay
After the rafting comes the zipline over the Köprüçay River. Before you set off, staff put you into a safety harness, check the buckles and clip you onto the cable.
You glide along a steel cable with the river you’ve just rafted below you and the rocks and green slopes of the canyon all around. Children aged 6–12 do the zipline too.
Buggy safari on a forest dirt track
After the zipline you swap to the buggies. The track starts next to the rafting centre, in the same part of the national park.
Before you set off, staff check the vehicles, hand out helmets and go through the basic rules: how to pull away, brake, take bends and keep your distance. You don’t need a driving licence to drive a buggy.
With two seats side by side and no roof, a buggy sits more steadily on the track than a quad bike: one of you drives, the other rides alongside. You can drive from the age of 14, and guests aged 6–13 ride as passengers next to an adult. Children under 6 don’t take part in the buggy ride.
The dirt track runs through pine trees, green slopes and mountain terrain. The bends and bumps add a bit of a thrill, but the route itself is easy to follow and comfortable.
Lunch by the river: chicken, pasta and salad
Once the active part of the day is over, lunch is waiting at the rafting centre. It’s usually chicken, pasta and salad; drinks are extra.
On the bus and at the rafting centre you’ll often be with guests on other programmes, for example Tazi Canyon or the quad safari. So after lunch there’s free time by the river: while the others finish their part of the programme, you can change into dry clothes and relax.
Back to your hotel
Towards evening the bus sets off back to Alanya and drops guests at their hotels. We usually arrive between 18:30 and 19:30; whether it’s a little earlier or later depends on which area your hotel is in and on the traffic.

A buggy safari is a ride on a dedicated track in the Köprülü Canyon National Park area.
A buggy is an open two-seater vehicle, and one buggy is shared by two people. If you’d like to drive one on your own, the supplement is $10; please mention it in the “Special Requests” field when you book.
You can drive a buggy from the age of 14. Children aged 6–13 ride as passengers with an adult. Children aged 0–5 don’t ride the buggies. No driving licence is needed. Before the start, the instructors explain the rules and show you how to drive.
Where does the zipline run?
The zipline is in Köprülü Canyon, over the Köprüçay River: you ride down a steel cable.
First, staff help you put on the equipment and check it, then clip each guest into the safety system. After the ride, the group returns to the rafting centre.
All you need to do is listen to the staff and follow a few simple instructions.
What is a cabrio safari?
A cabrio safari is a ride in open-top buses from the rafting centre to the rafting start point.
The route runs through the pine forests and mountain areas of Köprülü Canyon National Park. It’s part of the programme, not a transfer: to and from your hotel you travel in an air-conditioned minibus, not an open-top bus.
Can I go rafting with no experience?
Yes, no experience is needed.
The rafting takes place on the Köprüçay River. The route is suitable for beginners and has no difficult rapids. There’s an instructor in every raft.
Before the start you’re shown how to sit, how to hold the paddle and how to follow commands. Everyone wears a helmet and a life jacket.
