MORE ABOUT THE TOUR
- It is very easy to make a truly unforgettable vacation. It's enough to go paragliding one fine, clear day. During a paragliding flight, you will soar in the sky like a bird, feel a powerful surge of adrenaline, a sense of freedom and lightness, as well as delight from the views that open up. Such brand new, vivid emotions will be remembered for a long time!
Paragliding: General information
- Paragliding is a type of parachuting in which a pilot makes a horizontal flight on a paraglider – an ultralight and the simplest aircraft in its design and control. Unlike rapid horizontal parachute jumps in paragliding, the height decreases slowly and smoothly.
- The design of the paraglider is really primitive. It consists of a soft ellipsoid wing, a sling and a suspension system. It is controlled by the free edges of the slings.
- When assembled, this whole structure fits freely in a backpack and can weigh from 5 to 13 kg. And in order to bring it into working condition, it will take about 5 minutes.
- The first soft wing that allows you to hover in the air for a short time, and which became the prototype of modern delta planes and paragliders, was invented by the American aviation engineer-inventor Francis Rogallo in the 40s of the 20th century.
- However, the father of paragliding is inventor Steve Snyder, who created the parachute wing. In the mid-70s in the Alps, extreme athletes from France made the first attempt to fly on a parachute wing from the slopes of the mountains.
- In the 80s, the wing began to be modernized, giving it a more elongated shape.
- Mass popularity as a sports discipline paragliding begins to gain in the 90s.
- Today, as well as in the 70s, the flight is carried out from any elevation, for example, a hill or a mountain slope, soaring is maintained due to ascending air currents. The speed at which the aircraft can move is from 20 to 70 km/h.
- How far can a paraglider fly? In October 2018, Swiss pilot Michel Siegel covered a distance of 551 km, thereby setting a new world record.
- How high can it climb? In July 2021, in Pakistan, a French extreme pilot set another world record by flying at an altitude of 8407 meters above sea level.
Paragliding in Alanya: where it takes place
- Alanya is a resort town located in the south-west of Turkey. The Taurus Mountains seem to have taken the city in their arms and reliably protect it from the cold winds that blow from the north. It is on their peaks, at an altitude of 500 and 800 meters, that the launch pads for paragliding flights are located.
- While paragliding, soaring above the city at a bird's-eye view, you will admire the picturesque panoramic landscapes of the coast, Alanya itself, and its main historical attractions.
- For example, you will see the famous Cleopatra Beach.
- Cleopatra Beach is one of the most beautiful and popular holiday destinations in Alanya. It is surrounded by the Tauride Mountains, overgrown with coniferous forest, and has a length of 2.5 km. The coast, which is covered with golden coarse sand, with rare inclusions of pebbles, is washed by the emerald waves of the Mediterranean Sea.
- The infrastructure of the beach is well developed and thought out to the smallest detail, so absolutely any guest will be comfortable here. Along the coastline there are cafes with restaurants where you can taste Turkish cuisine and souvenir shops.
- Since 2004, Cleopatra Beach has been awarded the Blue Flag every year as an environmentally friendly, safe place!
- But why is the beach named after the Egyptian queen? There is a legend that a long time ago Cleopatra, tired of sea travel, ordered to moor the ship in a small but very picturesque bay. The harbor was so liked by the oriental beauty that it became a favorite vacation spot.
- Another business card of the city that you will see during the flight is a medieval fortress built on a rocky peninsula and towering 250 meters above the sea. Its construction began in 1226 under Sultan Ala ad-Din Kei-Kubad I.
- The fortress defended the city from three sides. A 6-kilometer wall encircles the mountain, and behind it there are many city buildings that have survived to this day. At that time, the whole of Alanya was quietly located on this mountain. Today, the old town has turned into a real open-air museum with an area of 10 hectares.
- At the very top there is another, inner fortress – Ich Kale. Local residents moved into it during the siege of the city, stored provisions, water and ammunition in it.
- You can also consider the symbol of the city, located at the very foot of the mountain – the Red Tower. It is an octagonal structure, with loophole windows and a large courtyard.
- It is difficult not to notice the minaret of the Suleymaniye Mosque towering over the city. The mosque was first erected in the 13th century by Sultan Ala ad-Din Kei-Kubad, and in the 16th century it was rebuilt by the Ottoman Sultan Suleiman the Magnificent.
How is the tour going:
- A comfortable transfer will take you to one of the launch pads. Here you will be met by a Russian-speaking instructor who will conduct an introductory safety briefing, tell you how to behave during the flight itself. You will also be given a helmet and will be helped to put on equipment.
- For tourists, paragliding in Alanya is available only in tandem with an instructor, who controls and also takes pictures of the entire flight. According to safety regulations, tourists are prohibited from holding third-party items during the flight.
- After careful preparation and verification of all fastening systems, the flight itself begins. You will have to act in unison with the instructor. After overclocking, you must sit in a special saddle at the command of your pilot, and then the only thing you will have to do is enjoy the feeling of free soaring in the sky and admire the beauty of the sea, the city, the mountains and the forest!
- Depending on weather conditions, the entire flight can last from 15 to 30 minutes.
- Landing takes place on Cleopatra Beach. After that, you will have some free time to catch your breath and view photos and videos of your flight, and, if desired, purchase these memorabilia.
How to prepare for paragliding?
- There is no definite preparation for paragliding. You can take a windbreaker or a warm sweater with you because it can be windy and cooler at the top of the mountain than at the foot. Shoes should be well fixed on the foot.
