MORE ABOUT THE TOUR

  • Rafting and buggy safari is a fun and active excursion, which is designed for the whole day. This tour will be a real find for bored tourists and will give a lot of positive emotions and impressions.
What is Rafting?
  • Rafting is rafting on a mountain river on inflatable rafts or kayaks, during which the team will have to overcome all sorts of obstacles and obstacles encountered on their way.
  • The very name "rafting" comes from the English word raft, which means "raft" in translation
  • There is a version about how rafting originated. It was during the Vietnam War, when soldiers transported cargo along rivers using rafts. One day, the torn raft was carried away by a violent current. The soldier who was on the raft not only survived, but was also able to bypass the rapids and other obstacles encountered on his way. After this incident, rafting on the river became a kind of entertainment for the soldiers.
  • Now rafting is a popular type of extreme water sports all over the world, in which competitions and championships are held.
  • Conventionally, rafting is divided into categories: sports, tourist and hiking.
  • We, tourists who are looking for a fun, interesting and diverse way to spend time on vacation, are interested in tourist rafting.
  • All rafting routes in Turkey have a 2nd, sometimes 3rd level of difficulty, suitable for both beginners and advanced rafters. The net time spent on the water is approximately 2 hours. Active rowing certainly alternates with rest on land.
  • The ideal time for rafting on the river is from June to September, because even on the hottest days, the water temperature in the river will be 10 – 12C.
  • Vacationers in such resort cities of Turkey as Antalya, Kemer, Alanya, Belek and Side to participate in rafting go to the National Park Kepryulu Canyon, which is located near the village of Beshkonak in Manavgat, which is located 90 km from the center of Antalya.
Koprulu Canyon National Park
  • The Kepryulyu Canyon National Park was founded in 1973 and covers an area of 366,140 hectares. The reserve got its name due to the canyon of the same name formed by the Kepryuchai River between the villages of Beshkonak and Balasan. In the Republic of Turkey, the Köprülü Canyon is considered the largest. Its length is 14 km, and its height reaches 100 meters. In places, the walls of the gorge are almost impossible to climb.
  • The Kepryuchay River, or Kepry, originates in the Taurus Mountains and, passing through natural canyons, filling with groundwater from them, flows into the Mediterranean Sea south of the city of Serik. Its length is 183 kilometers. Being a full-flowing spring, with a strong enough current, both in summer and in winter, Kepryuchai is ideal for rafting and other water sports on it.
  • It is worth noting that the Köprülü Canyon National Park is one of the most beautiful natural recreation areas in Turkey. On its territory there is the largest natural cypress forest in the entire Mediterranean region, with an area of 400 hectares. Its rich fauna includes 48 rare and endangered species. Of these, 44 species are found only here, i.e. they are endemic species; 5 species are on the verge of extinction on a global scale; 4 species on a national scale; 39 species are endangered in Europe.
  • In the reserve, you can watch a mountain goat and a black salamander, admire how the Anatolian scavenger and the white-headed barn owl soar in the sky.
  • Many historical and archaeological monuments, such as castles, aqueducts, roads and ancient bridges, have also been preserved here. For example, the most famous among tourists is the ancient Roman bridge Oluk, connecting two parts of the canyon Kepryulyu. It can be safely called a kind of entrance and a visiting card of a natural park.
  • To the west of the Kepryuchai River, in a mountainous area, there are ruins of the ancient city of Selge, which was founded in the 5th century BC. Not much remains of the once majestic city now: the ancient theater, agora, cisterns, aqueducts, temples of Zeus and Artemis.
  • To the east of the ancient Selge there is another attraction of the reserve – Adam Kayalar, or People-rocks. These are rocks with interesting geomorphological features, with a height of 10 to 70 meters and an age of more than 65 million years. From a distance, they really resemble people or warriors who stand on the defensive, perhaps even Selge.
What is a Buggy?
  • A buggy is a small, light vehicle with increased cross-country ability and stability. These small cars are designed for two people – a driver and a passenger.
  • In the field of tourism, they have gained special popularity not only due to the fact that they will travel to the most inaccessible places, because they do not care about sand, dirt, or water obstacles encountered on their way, they are also safe and easy to manage. Absolutely anyone can drive a buggy, even someone who has never driven a car. You don't need a driver's license to drive a buggy.
  • Interesting fact! Buggy translates as "bug". The first buggies were invented in the 50s from old and sometimes recyclable Volkswagen Beetles.
How is the Rafting and buggy Safari tour going?
  • Please note that the text below is for informational purposes only. The sequence of the program may change at the discretion of the guide, depending on weather conditions or busy locations. For example, riding a buggy can be both at the beginning of the tour, and at the end or in the middle of the tour.
  • The first part of the tour is buggy riding
  • After the bus picks up the guests from the hotels, it will head to the buggy parking lot.
  • Upon arrival at the parking lot, the instructor will conduct a safety briefing, issue protective equipment – a helmet.
  • Before going on the main route, you will have a test drive, and express training will be conducted for guests who have no driving experience.
  • Buggies are designed for two people, so if someone is not confident in their abilities or does not want to sit behind the wheel - it does not matter, the passenger seat is for you!
  • A buggy ride through the picturesque forest and mountainous terrain will take about 40 minutes, after which you will return to the parking lot.
  • The second part of the tour is rafting.
  • At the rafting center, you can change into a change of clothes or swimsuits.
  • You will be given all the necessary protective equipment (helmet, life jacket) and an introductory safety briefing.
  • The starting point is 10 km from the rafting center, where you will go by vehicles. After the arrival of tourists, they are divided into teams of 6 to 8 people, depending on which inflatable raft your team got. At the head of each team is an experienced instructor who will explain how to sit in a boat, how to row, how to overcome certain obstacles, how to behave in case of falling into the water and how to wait for help in the water.
  • After completing all the preparations and training, the rafting itself begins on the river.
  • Rafting in Turkey along the Kepryul canyon has the 2nd, sometimes the 3rd level of difficulty. The route is suitable for both beginners and advanced rafters. The net time spent on the water is approximately 2 hours. You have to overcome a segment of 14 kilometers. However, it will be divided into two parts – 7.5 kilometers each with rest breaks of 15 minutes and 30 minutes.
  • After arriving at the finish line, our tourists will have a delicious and hearty lunch consisting of dishes of national cuisine, rest and swimming in the backwaters of the river.
  • Upon returning to the raft center, you can view videos and photographs taken by the photographer and, if desired, purchase them.
How to prepare?
  • Going on such an active excursion, it is first of all worth paying attention to comfortable clothes and shoes that are well fixed on the leg.
  • You can also take a set of change of clothes with you, because riding a buggy is likely to get dirty and a bandage on your face that protects from dust.
  • Don't forget to bring your bathing accessories and sun protection.
  • During rafting, if you wish, you can rent a wetsuit and special slippers for rafting.
