What sights can you visit in Cappadocia

Open Air Museum in Goreme

  • Goreme, translated from Turkish, this name means "invisible". On the territory of the national park there are the Church of St. Basil, Elmali (Apple) Church, St. Barbara Church, Yilanli (Snake) Church and Carikli (Sandal) Church, Karanlik (Dark) Church.
Underground cities in Cappadocia
  • Tuff in Cappadocia is durable on the one hand, and very easy to process on the other. 4 thousand years ago it was not difficult for the Hittites to understand this and they built underground cities. After the death of the state, they were also used for protective purposes. It is even known that the army of Alexander the Great stopped in one of these cities. And the first Christians were hiding here from their persecutors. There are more than 200 underground cities on the territory of Cappadocia. Each was designed for about 50 families and could stay there for 3 months, without even rising to the surface. In the underground cities in Cappadocia there were supplies of food, water, wineries, living rooms, kitchens. The largest underground cities in Cappadocia are Derinkuyu, Kaymakli, Ozkonak, Sarati
Cappadocian Night
  • Our show starts at 20:30 and ends at 23:00. You will see amazing dances of dervishes, dances of various Turkish nationalities. You will be offered unlimited drinks of local production. Local drinks include: fanta, cola, red and white wine, beer, water.
Dervishes dance
  • The dervishes achieved union with God in the course of their ecstatic dance, circling in one place around their axis. The dance called "sema" was performed in the "semahan" room and consisted of three parts. The first part symbolizes the vision of God, the second - the knowledge of God, the third - union with God. The dervishes felt like they were between heaven and earth, neither in the world of the living nor the dead. They began their dance in the position of crossing their arms on their chest - the position of the deceased, and then they opened up, the right hand went up, the left went down, this symbolized that the dervish takes divine grace from heaven and lets it pass through itself. Each piece of their clothing symbolizes something. The white color of the clothes symbolizes death, the shroud is the clothes of the deceased. The black blanket that they take off after 3 spins is burial. The soul, as it were, ascends and frees itself from its grave. A felt hat symbolizes a tombstone
How Cappadocia was formed
  • 8 million years ago, as a result of tectonic movements, 3 volcanoes erupted in central Anatolia - Erciyes, Hasan and Melendiz. Before that, there was a plateau in the triangle between the volcanoes. After volcanic eruptions, ash and lava covered the plateau with an even layer. The climate changed, and the frozen lava was transformed into basalt, and the ash into tuff. Winds blow, rivers flow, it rains, and tuff and basalt are slowly destroyed.
Thus, amazing natural formations are obtained. We call them "rock mushrooms" and the locals call them "Fairy chimneys". (peri bacalari) So, the "leg" of the mushroom is made of tuff, and the "cap" is made of basalt, since basalt is denser than tuff and degrades more slowly.

What cities do you pass during the excursion of Cappadocia

Konya

  • Konya has more than 2 million inhabitants and is the largest city in terms of area among the Turkish cities. Konya was founded in Byzantine times and was called "Iconium" - "the city where icons are made." In the 13th century, the city became the capital of the Seljuk Empire. The Seljuks began to call her Konya. Now it is a large industrial center.
